Stella Duffy es una reconocida escritora inglesa, galardonada en múltiples ocasiones, conocida por su trabajo en los géneros de ciencia ficción, misterio y ficción histórica. Ha escrito varias series de libros, incluyendo la serie Saz Martin, la serie Novel of Empress Theodora y la serie Roderick Alleyn, que escribió en colaboración con la autora Ngaio Marsh. Duffy también ha escrito numerosos novelas, novellas y colecciones de relatos independientes.
Duffy nació el 2 de marzo de 1963 en Woolwich, Londres, Reino Unido, pero pasó su adolescencia en Nueva Zelanda. Regresó a Londres a mediados de la década de 1980 y desde entonces reside allí. A lo largo de su carrera, Duffy ha escrito diecisiete novelas, más de setenta relatos cortos y catorce obras de teatro. Su trabajo le ha valido varios premios, entre ellos dos veces el Stonewall Writer of the Year award y dos veces el CWA Short Story Dagger. Dos de sus novelas, The Room of Lost Things y State of Happiness, fueron preseleccionadas para el Orange Prize.
Además de su carrera como escritora, Duffy también es profesora de yoga y trainee existencial de psicoterapia. Co-fundó la campaña Fun Palaces para la democracia cultural, una iniciativa que pretende ofrecer acceso gratuito y sin restricciones a las artes y las ciencias para todos.
