Barbara Keiler, quien también escribe bajo los seudónimos Ariel Berk, Thea Frederick y Judith Arnold, nació el 7 de abril y comenzó a contar historias antes de poder siquiera escribir. Con 4 años, su hermana Carolyn le enseñó el alfabeto y desde entonces no ha dejado de escribir. Keiler es graduada de Smith College y obtuvo una maestría en escritura creativa de la Universidad Brown. Está casada con un estudiante de graduado en química que conoció en Brown, y tienen dos hijos adolescentes y una cobaya llamada Wilbur.
Keiler ha recibido becas de escritura de la Fundación Shubert y de la National Endowment for the Arts. También ha impartido clases en colegios y universidades de todo el país y ha escrito varias obras que han sido representadas profesionalmente en teatros regionales de San Francisco, Washington D.C., Connecticut y off-off-Broadway.
