Jo Ann Vest, autora de novelas de romance contemporáneo bajo el nombre de Joanna Wayne, nació en Shreveport, Louisiana. Desde los cuatro años, comenzó a leer y rápidamente desarrolló un amor por los libros, haciendo viajes semanales a la biblioteca para sacar la mayor cantidad de libros que podía leer antes de acostarse por la noche. Vest creció en Shreveport como la hija del medio de una gran familia. En 1984, se mudó a Nueva Orleans, Luisiana, donde conoció a su esposo actual. La ciudad de Nueva Orleans proporcionó a Vest un rico telón de fondo cultural e histórico que más tarde influiría en su escritura. Fue allí donde asistió a su primera clase de escritura y se unió a su primera organización profesional de escritores, marcando el comienzo de su carrera como autora de romance.
Vest ha publicado más de cuarenta libros bajo el nombre de Joanna Wayne y es conocida por sus historias llenas de suspenso y emoción que presentan a personas comunes en situaciones de vida o muerte.
