Henry James

Henry James fue un autor estadounidense nacido en Nueva York el 15 de abril de 1843, conocido por su aporte significativo a la literatura de ficción novelas y cuentos. Hijo de una familia adinerada, su padre, Henry James Sr., era un teólogo que daba gran valor a la educación, lo que tuvo un gran impacto en la vida y obra de James. Fue el segundo de cinco hijos, entre los que se incluyen el psicólogo y filósofo William James y la diarista Alice James.

James es principalmente conocido por su serie de novelas importantes que retratan el encuentro de América con Europa. Sus obras se centran en las relaciones personales, el ejercicio apropiado del poder en tales relaciones y otras cuestiones morales. El método de escritura de James desde el punto de vista de un personaje dentro de un relato le permitió explorar los fenómenos de la conciencia y la percepción, y su estilo en trabajos posteriores ha sido comparado con la pintura de impressionismo. Su uso imaginativo del punto de vista, monólogo interior y narradores poco confiables en sus novelas y cuentos brindó una nueva profundidad e interés a la ficción realista y presagió el trabajo modernista del siglo XX.

James fue un escritor prolífico, y además de sus muchas obras de ficción, publicó artículos y libros sobre una variedad de temas, incluyendo escritos de viaje, biografía, autobiografía y crítica. También escribió obras de teatro, algunas de las cuales se representaron durante su vida con un éxito moderado. Se cree que su trabajo teatral tuvo una influencia profunda en sus novelas y cuentos posteriores. James pasó la mayor parte de su vida en Inglaterra y se convirtió en ciudadano británico poco antes de su muerte en Londres el 28 de febrero de 1916. Se le considera ampliamente uno de los novelistas más grandes en el idioma inglés y ha publicado varias novelas importantes, incluyendo "Daisy Miller", "The Wings of the Dove", "The Golden Bowl" y "The Ambassadors."
