Cynthia Defelice es una autora consagrada, reconocida por su trabajo en la literatura infantil. Sus obras han recibido numerosos premios y reconocimientos, como nominaciones para un Premio Edgar Allan Poe, designación como Libro Infantil del Año de la lista de los mejores de Bank Street y inclusión en la lista de Libros Infantiles Notables de la American Library Association.
Cynthia nació en Filadelfia en 1951 y desde temprana edad mostró un gran aprecio por la lectura. Recuerda que las vacaciones de verano comenzaban con una visita a la librería, donde ella y sus hermanos elegían libros para su lectura de verano. Desde entonces, ha trabajado como librera, pintora de graneros, narradora y bibliotecaria escolar, pero es su labor como autora lo que más ha destacado.
Cuando le preguntan sobre los aspectos de ser autora que más disfruta, Cynthia menciona la sensación de estar inmersa en la vida de sus personajes, el desafío de escribir con honestidad y la satisfacción de escuchar a los lectores que algo que escribió los tocó. Actualmente reside en Geneva, Nueva York, con su esposo.
